Recent Activities, Projects and Partnerships
- Committed $260,000 in matching funds to the City of Wenatchee for construction of dock and moorage space, and expansion of parking in the Orondo Street area of Riverfront Park.
- Committed $180,000 to the Wenatchee Community Center for an educational and entrepreneurial training facility
- Participating in Peshastin’s sub-area planning process as a major landowner
- Partnering with the City of Leavenworth to fund an Amtrak passenger station
- Completed major upgrades to the Port building housing the North Central Technical Skills Center
- Negotiated with Housing Authority of Chelan County and the City of Wenatchee to sell Port-owned industrial property in Malaga for farm worker housing
- Recently purchased a former mill site in Cashmere.
- Formed a Cashmere Citizen's Advisory Committee for input and feedback on redevelopment planning and efforts for the former mill site property.
- Partnering with the Wenatchee Valley Chamber in efforts to persuade Horizon Air to expand airline service at Pangborn Memorial Airport
- Working with Douglas County and the Port of Douglas County to complete a needs assessment on extending Pangborn Airport’s primary runway to accommodate regional jets and larger commercial aircraft in Horizon’s fleet
- Leading Advanced Vehicle Innovations (AVI) to establish Chelan County as a center for solar, bio-fuel and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology
- Supporting marketing of the county’s three wine sub-regions
- Completed tenant improvements at Port-owned buildings to support growth of tenants such as Loomis Golf, Sinclair Systems International, AccuPak, Pregis and Cascade Powder Coating
- Developed a design concept and is seeking state funds to create a pedestrian and bicycle path between Confluence State Park, the Apple Capital Loop Trail and the Olds Station Industrial area
- Leading the Greater Columbia Water Trails effort to enhance regional recreational tourism by improving access to the Columbia River for paddle sports enthusiasts
The Port of Chelan County recently negotiated a 10-year lease with Yahoo! Inc. The internet giant is leasing space for its data center facility and related offices in the Confluence Technology Center. The Port also accommodates four incubator tenants at the CTC: Genesis Network, GCI , AgBASE, and US Online.
